News from New Member, Chuck Greaves
: "Bloomsbury, the venerable British publishing house, has announced the nine titles selected to launch their new Bloomsbury Circus imprint in the UK.  Among the chosen novels is HARD TWISTED, from RMMWA member Chuck Greaves.  HARD TWISTED, the fictional account of a Depression-era true crime set in the American Southwest, has been described by Steinbeck Award-winning author Pinckney Benedict as "the perfect amalgam of Cormac McCarthy and Jim Thompson:  violent, hilarious, and as bracing and painful as the blow of a dog quirt across the face."  It was named Best Historical Novel in the SouthWest Writers' 2010 annual writing contest, and it will be in bookstores worldwide in November."

Shanna Michaels, undercover police detective, presented facts on the seamier side of Denver, sharing insider knowledge on protitution sting operations and the drug trade. She's pictured here with VP Mike Befeler and Past President R.T. Lawton. She hangs out in good company!

Check out the Author pages. j.a. kazimer announces the March 2012 release and signings for CURSES! A F***ed-Up Fairy Tale.

Donnell Ann Bell announces the sale of her second book, a Romantic Suspense (mystery) entitled DEADLY RECALL, to Bell Bridge Books. It was a 2010 Golden Heart finalist, on which our own prolific Mike Befeler gave me tremendous insights. Release date is late 2012 or early 2013. Congrats, Donnell.

Mountain and Plains Trade Show 2011 is now history, but MWA was well represented. Mike Befeler, Barbara Graham and Margaret Coel were just a few of RMMWA members in attendance.

NEW MEMBER Sneed Collard III announces the release of HANGMAN'S GOLD (Slate Stephens Mysteries #2) from Bucking Horse Books, distributed by Mountain Press. The official release date will be November, 2011.

NEW MEMBER, Gerald Elias is pleased to announce that the third book of his Daniel Jacobus mystery series, DEATH AND THE MAIDEN, will be released this Tuesday, August 16. The story is about a famous string quartet on the verge of self-destruction in which each member mysteriously disappears, a la Agatha Christie, until only one is left. For information on his book tour, http://www.geraldelias.com/events.html.

R. T. Lawton's latest short story, "Labor Day," AHMM October 2011 issue, is fifth in the Holiday Burglars series. Yarnell and Beaumont have successfully burgled a top floor condo in an old building and are trying to quietly depart with the loot. Unfortunately, their ancient get-away elevator keeps descending slower and s-l-o-w-e-r, while a pregnant passenger can't wait. Now, the closest help onboard for medical services may be The Thin Guy, their burglar protégé who used to work as a mortician.
